Detailed description
Detailed description
The XSONIC Airmar B258 through-hull transducer is a 1 kW bronze unit designed for depth detection and rapid water temperature measurement. Ideal for sport fishing boats over 9 meters and small to medium commercial vessels, it delivers performance in shallow, mid-range, and deep waters.
Advanced acoustic capabilities
The B258 operates on two distinct frequencies: 50 kHz and 200 kHz. At 50 kHz, it achieves a maximum depth of 647 meters (2,200 feet) with an elliptical beam of 15° x 21°. At 200 kHz, its range is 294 meters (1,000 feet) with a narrower elliptical beam of 3° x 5°, enabling increased target resolution. Its four-ceramic-element design provides higher sensitivity: 25 times greater at 50 kHz and 16 times greater at 200 kHz compared to 600 W single-element transducers. The overall maximum depth rating is 500 meters (1,640 feet).
Design and installation
Constructed from bronze, this transducer is specifically recommended for fiberglass or wooden hulls. It comes with a high-performance fairing block that optimizes water flow, ensuring stable and accurate readings at speeds up to 30 knots (34 MPH). The fairing block allows installation on hulls with a deadrise angle up to 26°. The transducer requires a 30 mm (1-3/16 inches) hole in the hull. Its 10-meter (33-foot) cable is equipped with a black 9-pin connector. Weighing 3.6 kg (7.9 lbs) and featuring an epoxy/urethane acoustic window, the B258 also integrates Airmar’s patented Xducer ID® technology. It is compatible with fishfinders such as the BSM-1 and operates within a speed range of 1 to 45 knots.
