The C-MAP MAX RED SEA, ARAB GULF AND AFRICA electronic chart, reference AF-M005, provides comprehensive navigation data for a vast maritime region. This chart is a "MegaWide" coverage option designed for use with compatible chartplotters and PC navigation software. It uses proven vector charts and does not include satellite imagery, oblique aerial imagery, or raster charts, which are features of "+" formats.
Extended coverage and navigation data
The AF-M005 chart provides in-depth coverage of African coastal areas. This includes the region from the Strait of Gibraltar, extending beyond the Canary Islands and Cape Verde, along the Gulf of Guinea, and down to the South African coast to the west. To the east, it covers the African coast, the Red Sea, and the Sea of Oman. It provides essential information such as depth zones and contours, spot soundings, navigation aids (NavAids), light sectors, wrecks/obstructions, and facilities for small craft.
Features and compatibility of C-MAP MAX charts
C-MAP MAX charts are supplied on a microSD card (mSD) with an SD card adapter; the Compact Flash format is no longer offered. They benefit from bi-annual updates incorporating the latest navigational warnings, as well as updates to marina facilities, port services, and photos. These charts are compatible with many chartplotters from manufacturers such as Lowrance, Simrad, and B&G; checking compatibility with a specific model is advised. They are not compatible with smartphones or tablets.
Notable features include tide and current level and direction projections, detailed marina plans with location and restricted area information via the C-Marina Port database, and details on ports and approaches (limits, bridges, anchorage zones). The system also provides dynamic NavAids information (name, color, frequency, light range), a Guardian obstacle detection alarm, customizable depth shading, and the Easy Routing feature for automatic safe route plotting. Aerial photos and a 45-degree perspective view complete the offering.
