Detailed description
Detailed description
The Garmin ECU 10 is a central component of the Compact Reactor™ 40 hydraulic autopilot system. It is designed to connect and power the Course Control Unit (CCU) and the hydraulic pump, controlling the latter based on information received from the CCU. This entry-level solution is specifically suited for single outboard-powered motorboats, typically for vessels under 25 feet. It is important to note that the ECU 10 and the Compact Reactor™ 40 system are not recommended for boats 25 feet or longer, motors over 150 horsepower, or those with a deadrise angle greater than 12 degrees. For applications requiring precise course control at low speeds or in rough waters, or for fishing, the higher-performance Reactor 40 models are more appropriate.
Performance and system integration
The ECU 10 requires a 12 to 24 Vdc power source. The Compact Reactor™ 40 system integrates a 9-axis AHRS (Attitude Heading Reference System), enabling flexible mounting options and minimizing heading errors, course deviations, rudder movements, and power consumption, providing stable navigation even in rough seas. The autopilot actively responds to sea conditions to maintain the set course.
Installation and compatibility
Installation and calibration of the system are designed to be straightforward. The ECU 10 features NMEA 2000® connectivity, enabling course data sharing with other devices on the network. This includes integration with compatible Garmin chartplotters and up to three Garmin Helm Control (GHC) units. The optional Shadow Drive™ technology automatically disengages the autopilot when the helm is manually turned and reactivates it once a stable course is maintained. Paired with a compatible chartplotter and G3 Vision maps (or LakeVü HD Ultra/BlueChart® g2 Vision® HD), the Auto Guidance+™ feature allows automatic GPS route following. Wireless remote control capabilities are also available via compatible Garmin devices, including the Reactor autopilot remote or certain marine quatix® smartwatches (requires a compatible Garmin chartplotter or GHC 50 autopilot instrument).
