The JL Audio XDM500/3 marine amplifier is a 3-channel Class D amplification solution designed for embedded audio installations requiring reliable performance in marine environments. It delivers a total RMS power output of 500 watts, enabling it to power a stereo system and a subwoofer with a single compact unit.
Audio performance and power
This amplifier provides an RMS power output of 75 W x 2 at 4 Ω or 100 W x 2 at 2 Ω for the main channels. In bridged mode, it reaches 200 W x 1 at 4 Ω. The dedicated subwoofer channel delivers 180 W x 1 at 4 Ω and up to 300 W x 1 at 2 Ω. The frequency response extends from 12 Hz to 22 kHz (+0, -1 dB) for the full-range channels and from 10 Hz to 1 kHz for the subwoofer channel, ensuring detailed sound reproduction. The total harmonic distortion (THD+N) is less than 1.0 % at 2 ohms.
Marine design and integrated technologies
The JL Audio XDM500/3 features marine-grade construction with a black powder-coated finish, a sealed control cover, and stainless steel hardware, ensuring durability against the elements. It integrates JL Audio’s NexD™ switching amplification technology, which provides high efficiency, precise power delivery, and minimized heat generation, all in a compact form factor. The Advanced Rollback protection monitors the amplifier’s temperature and adjusts its operation to prevent thermal shutdown. The balanced differential inputs and dual-mode selectable input filter help reduce noise, common in vehicle and boat electrical systems.
Connectivity and installation
This amplifier is equipped with RCA inputs (200 mV - 4 V) and high-level speaker inputs for extended compatibility with various sources. It offers automatic turn-on capability via signal detection or DC offset. Preamp outputs are included for potential system expansion. The crossover filters are variable: high-pass (50-500 Hz, 12 dB/octave) for the main channels and low-pass (50-500 Hz, 12 or 24 dB/octave) for the subwoofer channel. A 4 AWG power cable is recommended, with a 50 A fuse to be installed within 45 cm of the battery’s positive terminal. Its dimensions are 52 mm in height, 216 mm in width, and 180 mm in depth, facilitating integration into tight spaces. It is compatible with optional water-resistant remote level controllers HD-RLC or MHD-RLC.
