Can paper charts be used as a complement?
Yes, and it's mandatory in some cases. Division 240 requires paper charts of the sailed zone for offshore sailing (>60 NM). SHOM in France, NOAA in the USA. Electronic charts complement, they do not replace. In case of chartplotter failure, paper charts + magnetic compass + handheld GPS are your backup.
Cost of a physical SD card vs download?
