Combined navigation lights: multiple functions in a single housing

A combined navigation light integrates two or more signaling functions into a single housing. On a sailboat or powerboat, this reduces the number of lights to install, minimizes wiring at the masthead or on a support, and keeps the installation cleaner. The benefits are not just aesthetic: fewer drilled holes, less weight aloft, and fewer exposed connections also simplify maintenance.

This collection primarily features Mantagua combined lights for common applications: tricolour + anchor light, masthead + anchor light, masthead + deck floodlight, tricolour + strobe, or more comprehensive sets with day/night modes. The right choice depends on the boat type, navigation area, mounting position, and how the circuits are controlled at the electrical panel.

Selecting the right combination

For sailboats, tricolour navigation lights paired with anchor lights are often installed at the masthead. They combine red/green/white signaling with a 360° white anchor light. In this category, you will find the horizontal 2MN tricolour + anchor light with base, the classic horizontal tricolour + anchor light for boats under 20 m, the Navipro 2MN tricolour + anchor light, and the Tiny tri 1MN tricolour + anchor light for compact installations.

For installations requiring both a masthead light and an anchor light, combined masthead + anchor lights eliminate the need for multiple lanterns on the mast. The Navipro horizontal 5MN masthead + 2MN anchor light meets this need when a longer masthead range is required while keeping the anchor light integrated.

Combined masthead + deck floodlight units are useful when the masthead light and deck illumination must share the same location. They allow for a compact mast installation while separating functions at the electrical panel. The collection includes the LED deck floodlight + 5MN masthead light, its 2MN version, and the combined 3MN masthead + LED 30W deck floodlight.

Strobe, day/night, and safety functions

Some models include a strobe function or day/night modes. The horizontal 2MN tricolour + strobe light with base is designed for installations requiring enhanced signaling. The horizontal 2MN tricolour + strobe + anchor light + day/night integrates even more functions into a single unit, requiring appropriate wiring.

A combination of functions does not replace the regulatory requirement to select the correct lighting mode. A tricolour light, masthead light, anchor light, or strobe light are not used in the same situations. Before ordering, verify your navigation plan, boat size, required range in nautical miles, and the rules applicable to your flag or zone.

Key considerations before installation

Wiring is the most critical aspect of a combined light. Each function must be clearly controlled with identified circuits, readable switches, and appropriate protection. Avoid setups that activate two incompatible functions simultaneously unless the light and wiring diagram explicitly allow it. On a mast, also consider the number of available conductors, cable entry sealing, vibration protection, and future access to connections.

The orientation of the light is as important as its function. A horizontal light, masthead light, base-mounted light, or dedicated support light must be installed in the position specified by the manufacturer to maintain correct visibility sectors. This is especially true for tricolour lights and masthead lights, where incorrect orientation can make red, green, or white sectors inconsistent.

Related collections

If you need a single function rather than a multifunction housing, also see the navigation lights, side lights, masthead lights, anchor lights, and strobe lights collections. A standalone light can sometimes be easier to diagnose or replace, while a combined light is often cleaner and lighter when multiple functions must occupy the same location.

Skysat advice

First, select the functions you truly need, then choose the housing format. A combined light is appropriate when it simplifies installation without creating ambiguity at the electrical panel. For masthead installations, check the range, compatibility with existing diameter or support, number of available wires, and space required for a secure, watertight, and durable connection.
