From the Mini 6.50 #868 to the Class40 #196, the full trajectory at Alternative Sailing

Guillaume L'Hostis, nicknamed « Junior », is from Fouesnant. Optimist at 6 years old, Laser in high school in a high-performance sailing program, then offshore racing training at the Institut Nautique de Bretagne. He joined Alternative Sailing (La Trinité-sur-Mer) on a work-study basis for two years, then was hired. Eight years in total with the team, including a base manager position in Martinique until 2022. Since May 2024, he has been the official skipper of the Class40 Alternative Sailing / Constructions du Belon.

Mini 6.50: the formative years

Before the Class40, Guillaume honed his skills in the Mini 6.50 class aboard the 868 Alternative Sailing - Constructions du Belon. In 2018, he finished 2nd in the Duo Concarneau with Tanguy Bouroullec. In 2019, he completed the Mini-Transat in 11th place out of 65 boats in the standard class. In 2021, he reunited with Bouroullec on the Pogo Foiler 969: victory at the Mini Fastnet in the prototype class, after a tight duel with the 1019 Teamwork.

Class40 #196 Machouquette

The boat he has been sailing since 2024 is a Mach 40.5 #196 (hull name: Machouquette), Sam Manuard design, JPS Production build, launched in 2023. Regular co-skipper on double-handed races: Antoine Le Manchec. The duo completed the Transat Café L'Or Le Havre-Martinique in November 2025 in 9th place in the Class40, in 20 days, 1 hour, and 16 minutes.

2025 season: 3rd in the Class40 championship

Guillaume ended 2025 on the Class40 championship podium in 3rd place behind Sogestran-Seafrigo and Legallais. A consistency built race after race on a recent boat, against more experienced programs.
