Detailed description
Detailed description
The B&G WS710 Wind Anemometer Pack with 35m cable and junction box is a complete solution designed for high-precision wind measurement, proven in offshore racing conditions. This pack includes the WS710 vertical wind sensor, a 35-meter mast cable, and a 7-terminal junction box, providing everything needed for direct installation on compatible systems.
Aerodynamic design and performance
The WS710 sensor features a 0.8 m high-modulus carbon vertical mast that positions it in undisturbed airflow, above the sail plan. This elevation minimizes turbulence and ensures more stable and reliable true wind direction measurements. Its one-piece design, the result of over 200,000 hours of wind tunnel testing, guarantees superior aerodynamics and stability for accurate data, essential for tactical decisions in regattas and for optimizing autopilot performance.
Technical data for the WS710 sensor
The sensor offers a measurement range of 0.5 to 90 knots. Wind speed accuracy is +/- 0.2 knots (between 2 and 80 knots) with a resolution of 0.1 knot, while wind angle accuracy is +/- 0.5°. The sensor weighs 0.3 kg (without cable) and is IPX6 waterproof. It operates on a 12V DC supply (9-16V DC) with a power consumption of less than 0.2W (15 mA at 12V DC). The operating temperature range is -15°C to +55°C.
Connectivity and system integration
The WS710 is designed for easy integration. It natively transmits data in NMEA 0183, via MWV and R sentences at a frequency of 10 Hz, with a serial port configuration at 38400 baud. This output allows direct connection to B&G H5000 or WTP3 systems. NMEA 2000 network connectivity is also possible using an optional wired interface (sold separately).
Positioning within the WS700 range
With its 0.8 m mast, the WS710 is the most compact model in the B&G vertical sensor series. It differs from larger models such as the WS720 (1.1 m), WS730 (1.4 m), and WS740 (1.8 m), which offer increasing mast lengths to accommodate larger sailboats or configurations requiring greater rigging clearance. Installation is simplified by a mounting footprint identical to that of previous VHMU models.
