Detailed description
Detailed description
The PLB3 distress beacon from Ocean Signal represents a major advancement in maritime survival equipment. Unlike its predecessor, the PLB1, or simple AIS beacons like the MOB1, this hybrid model combines global distress transmission via the Cospas-Sarsat satellite network (406 MHz at 5 W) and local signaling to nearby vessels via AIS (1 W). This technological redundancy ensures optimal rescue coverage, whether you are offshore or near the coast.
Advanced features and RLS system
The integration of the RLS (Return Link Service) service via the Galileo constellation provides crucial psychological support: a dedicated LED lights up to confirm to the user that their distress message has been received by the rescue coordination centers. For the final search phase, the PLB3 deploys a 121.5 MHz homing transmitter (25–100 mW) paired with a dual high-intensity strobe (white LED visible and infrared LED), facilitating detection by helicopters and rescue vessels, even in complete darkness.
Marine robustness and NFC connectivity
Designed to withstand the most extreme environments, the PLB3 weighs just 190 g and has compact dimensions of 200 x 36 x 22 mm. It is certified waterproof to depths exceeding 10 meters (1.0 bar) for over an hour and remains fully operational in temperatures ranging from -20°C to +55°C. Its lithium/iron disulfide battery provides a continuous transmission autonomy of over 24 hours. Finally, the major innovation lies in its integrated NFC chip, enabling instant verification of the beacon's status, test history, and battery capacity via the Ocean Signal mobile app, without triggering a physical test that consumes energy.
