Pogo Structures
Pogo Structures: Hull engineering for planing and vacuum-infused composite construction
Overview & Expertise
Based in Combrit Sainte-Marine, Pogo Structures was established under the leadership of its founder Christian Bouroullec as the benchmark yard for building lightweight craft dedicated to fast cruising and offshore racing. The yard’s philosophy is built on an unchanging triad: controlled weight, form stability and simplicity of handling.
Pogo Structures’ expertise relies on the widespread adoption of vacuum infusion for all composite parts (hull, deck, internal structures). This mastery delivers an optimal resin/fiber ratio, ensuring structural stiffness essential for hulls capable of planing at moderate wind regimes. Historic collaborations with naval architecture firms such as Finot-Conq, Sam Manuard and Guillaume Verdier have enabled the yard to transfer racing innovations (hard-chine hulls, scow bows) to the high-end cruising segment.
Flagship Models & Projects
The yard’s catalogue spans three distinct ranges, covering pure racing, fast cruising and efficient motoryachts:
- Mini 6.50 Series (Pogo 1, 2, 3): A core part of the yard’s history, these boats have trained generations of skippers and dominated the Mini Class thanks to their robustness.
- Class 40 (S Series): From the original Pogo 40 to the recent Pogo 40S4 V2, these Verdier-designed hulls are benchmarks for downwind power and seaworthiness.
- Cruising Range (Pogo 30, 36, 44, 50): Fast passagemakers with lifting keels and streamlined interiors. The Pogo 44 exemplifies the successful integration of a scow bow on a cruising sailboat.
- Loxo 32 & 35: The yard’s foray into motor yachting with ultra-light displacement craft optimized for minimal fuel consumption at cruising speeds of 10 to 15 knots.
