Jack Trigger, born in 1993 in Bedfordshire and based in Esher (Surrey), is a British offshore racing skipper. Trained at Wellington College and briefly studied engineering at Oxford, he dropped out to become a professional sailor and joined Team Concise.

Type 1 diabetes — awareness mission

Diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2015 (aged 21) during a race in the Arabian Gulf, Jack is the first solo ocean racing skipper with type 1 diabetes to compete in an ocean race. Ambassador for Diabetes UK, he has made it his mission to prove that type 1 diabetes does not limit sporting ambition. His stated goal: to become the first T1 diabetic to compete in the Vendée Globe.

Achievements

  • 2017: multihull finish line of the Rolex Fastnet Race (Concise 10)
  • 2018: 2nd in the Sevenstar Round Britain & Ireland Race in Class40 (Concise 8)
  • 2018: RORC Class40 Championship champion (Concise 8) — 3 wins and 2 podiums in 5 races
  • 2018: 8th in the Route du Rhum Class40 (Concise 8) — youngest finisher in the class and first T1 diabetic competitor
  • 2024: 1st in the SSE Renewables Round Ireland on Class 40 Swift
  • 2024: 3rd in the Drheam Cup, 13th in the CIC Normandy Channel Race
  • 2025: 9th in the CIC Normandy Channel Race and 9th in the Rolex Fastnet Race

Trigger Racing

Director and skipper of Trigger Racing (London). The current program revolves around the Class 40 Swift (#206), Mach 40.6 designed by Sam Manuard and built by JPS Production, in partnership with American Greg Leonard, the boat’s owner.
