Detailed description
Detailed description
The Ocean Signal rescueME MOB1 distress beacon is an ultra-compact man-overboard (MOB) locating device designed to integrate directly into a lifejacket. Unlike the brand’s PLB1 beacon, which transmits on satellite frequencies (406 MHz) to alert terrestrial coordination centers, the MOB1 is specifically developed for local recovery. It combines two essential communication technologies: AIS (Automatic Identification System) and DSC (Digital Selective Calling), ensuring that your own vessel and nearby boats are immediately alerted to the situation.
Transmission and localization performance
Equipped with a 66-channel GPS receiver, the MOB1 provides highly accurate positioning. Upon activation, it emits an AIS signal (frequencies 161.975 and 162.025 MHz with 1 Watt power) that displays the victim’s position directly on compatible onboard chartplotters. Simultaneously, it triggers an audible alarm on the vessel’s VHF via a DSC message (frequency 156.525 MHz at 0.5 Watt). The system also includes a high-intensity strobe light to facilitate visual recovery at night or in poor visibility conditions.
Rugged design and integration
Weighing just 92 grams and with minimal dimensions (134 x 38 x 27 mm), this beacon does not impede crew movement. It is designed to withstand the harshest marine environments: guaranteed waterproofing to 10 meters depth (2 bar for over 60 minutes), thermal shock tolerance (immersion at 45°C in cold water), and resistance to drops up to 20 meters in water. Its battery offers a 7-year shelf life and provides operational autonomy of over 24 hours, even at freezing temperatures of -20°C.
