Integrel: Innovative marine energy solutions

Integrel is a British manufacturer specializing in the design of alternator-based marine power systems. Their E-Power technology revolutionizes onboard power management by transforming the engine's alternator into a high-power generator coupled with a smart battery charger. This approach allows sailboats and motorboats to produce a significant amount of power while under power, often eliminating the need for an auxiliary generator. Renowned for its energy efficiency and seamless integration with existing systems, Integrel is a preferred solution for sailors looking to maximize their electrical autonomy. Skysat is skilled in the installation and configuration of these systems to guarantee reliable power production tailored to your needs.

E-power system: generator integrated into the alternator

Integrel's E-Power system replaces the engine's standard alternator with a specially designed high-power alternator capable of generating up to 9 kW of electrical energy. Unlike a conventional alternator limited to a few tens of amps, the E-Power can deliver several hundred amps for rapid battery charging and direct powering of onboard equipment.

  • High-power alternator: Reinforced 12V or 24V alternator capable of producing between 120A and 750A depending on the model. Designed to operate at a wide range of engine speeds (from idle to full throttle) while maintaining optimal energy efficiency. Integrated liquid cooling prevents overheating during extended use.
  • Multi-stage charge regulator: Advanced control electronics that automatically manage the charging phases (bulk, absorption, float) according to the battery type (AGM, gel, lithium, flooded lead-acid). Dynamically adapts the charging current to maximize battery life and prevent overcharging.
  • Engine integration without modification: Direct replacement of the original alternator without any mechanical modifications to the engine. Compatible with most marine diesel engines (Yanmar, Volvo Penta, Nanni, Vetus). Simplified installation thanks to adapted mounting brackets and standardized electrical connections.

Intelligent energy management

The Integrel system incorporates intelligent energy management that optimizes electrical production based on actual onboard needs, battery status, and engine speed. This automation maximizes energy efficiency and reduces fuel consumption.

  • Real-time monitoring: Display of charging parameters (voltage, current, power, battery charge status) on a dedicated control screen or via an NMEA 2000 interface. Automatic alerts in case of threshold exceedances or malfunctions.
  • Load prioritization: Ability to define load priorities for different battery banks (service, starting, electric propulsion). Automatic management of energy distribution to guarantee the availability of critical batteries.
  • Fuel economy mode: Engine speed optimization function to achieve the best compromise between energy production and fuel consumption. Automatic suggestion of the ideal engine speed based on the battery charge level.

Compatible with lithium batteries

Integrel systems are fully compatible with lithium (LiFePO4) batteries, which are increasingly popular in marine applications due to their energy density, longevity, and fast charging capabilities. The E-Power charge controller automatically adapts to the specific charging profiles of lithium batteries.

  • Programmable charging profiles: Fine-tuning of charging voltages and currents according to battery manufacturer specifications. Consideration of thermal and electrical charging limits to guarantee cell safety and lifespan.
  • Battery management system (BMS) communication: Communication interface with lithium battery management systems for coordinated charge control. Automatic charging shutdown in case of a BMS alert (excessive temperature, cell imbalance, overcurrent).
  • High-power fast charging: Ability to charge large capacity lithium battery banks (up to several hundred kWh) in a few hours of motoring, providing exceptional energy autonomy for offshore sailing.

Installation and maintenance

Installing an Integrel system requires technical expertise to ensure a robust mechanical assembly, correctly sized electrical wiring, and appropriate software configuration. Skysat has the necessary experience to integrate these systems professionally and reliably.

  • Cable sizing: Precise calculation of cable cross-section based on maximum load current and cabling length. Use of large cross-section cables (50 mm² to 95 mm²) to minimize losses and prevent overheating. Installation of professional crimped lugs and appropriate fuse protection.
  • Reinforced mechanical mounting: Check the strength of the alternator bracket and reinforce it if necessary to support the weight and vibrations of the high-power alternator. Precise alignment of the alternator pulley with the engine pulley to prevent premature belt wear.
  • Appropriate drive belt: Replace the original alternator belt with a reinforced belt (multi-ribbed poly-V type) capable of transmitting the high power. Belt tension adjusted according to the manufacturer's recommendations to prevent slippage and rapid wear.
  • Configuration and calibration: Programming of the charge controller according to the type and capacity of the onboard batteries. Complete load test after installation to verify system stability and the absence of faults. Crew training on the use and monitoring of the system.

💡 Skysat's advice

The Integrel E-Power system is particularly well-suited to sailboats that regularly use the engine (entering and leaving port, navigating in calm waters). To maximize its efficiency, it is recommended to run the engine at a moderate speed (1500-2000 rpm) for a sufficient duration to allow for a full battery charge. Ensure adequate ventilation in the engine room to dissipate the heat generated by the alternator and charge controller. Finally, combine the Integrel system with comprehensive energy monitoring (such as the Victron Cerbo GX) to visualize energy flows in real time and optimize your onboard electrical consumption.
