The Add-A-Battery Mini PLS-INTL kit from Blue Sea Systems (part number 7653-BSS) is a complete battery management solution designed to simplify switching and automate the charging of two batteries from a single source, such as an alternator up to 65 amperes. This system optimizes the energy management of vessels by combining batteries for charging and isolating them during engine start or when no charging source is present, thus protecting the starter battery from discharge.
Key components and performance
This kit includes two main components from Blue Sea Systems: a m-Series Mini Dual Circuit Plus™ battery switch (PN 6011) and an m-Series automatic charging relay (ACR) (PN 7601). The ACR (PN 7601) is compatible with 12/24V DC nominal voltages, offers a continuous current rating of 65A and an intermittent rating (5 min.) of 115A. It provides isolation during engine start and has a current draw of 15 mA when open and 90 mA in combined mode. Its closing voltages are 9.6/27.2V (30 sec.) and opening voltages are 12.75/25.5V (30 sec.). It is certified to ISO 8846, SAE J1171, and CE for ignition protection, with an IP67 rating, making it resistant to temporary immersion up to one meter in depth.
Advanced features of the battery switch
The Dual Circuit Plus™ battery switch (PN 6011) is a dual-circuit type, red in color, and supports a starting current (30 sec.) of 675A per circuit, an intermittent current (5 min.) of 450A per circuit, and a continuous current of 300A per circuit. Its maximum operating voltage is 32V DC. It is equipped with 3/8" (M10) tinned copper studs with a length of 7/8". This switch meets UL 1500, SAE J1171 (ignition protection), IP66 (dust-tight and protected against heavy splashing), CE, ISO 8846, UL 1107, and ABYC standards for battery switches. It allows isolation of engine and house circuits and includes an emergency combine function to draw power from both batteries during engine start. The housing is designed for surface mounting on the front or rear panel, and the knob is removable for safety and service locking.
