Detailed description
Detailed description
The Blue Sea Systems L-SERIES solenoid switch is designed for managing high-current marine 12V or 24V DC electrical systems. It is particularly suited for motor start circuit activation, remote battery switching, or main distribution panel disconnection. This device centralizes switching operations and reduces the length of heavy-gauge cables, optimizing the electrical installation.
Technical Specifications and Performance
This solenoid supports an input voltage range of 9 to 36V DC. It provides a continuous current capacity of up to 450A when using two 2/0 AWG cables, with ratings of 250A (1/0 AWG cable), 300A (2/0 AWG cable), or 400A (4/0 AWG cable) depending on configuration. Its intermittent capacity (5 minutes) reaches 600A (with two 2/0 AWG cables), and its starting capacity (30 seconds) is 1000A DC with a 1/0 AWG cable. Continuous operating current is 0.13A at 12V and 0.07A at 24V, with a peak of 3.6A or 3.8A during state change. The solenoid is normally open (NO) with SPST (Single Pole Single Throw) contact configuration.
Robust Design and Marine Safety
The Blue Sea Systems L-SERIES solenoid switch features hermetically sealed contacts, making it vapor-tight and suitable for harsh environments, including gasoline-powered boats. It is ignition-protected per ISO 8846 and SAE J1171 standards, ensuring safe installation. The unit includes coil control to minimize heat and current draw. It is activated via a low-ampere ON-OFF switch for remote operation. CE certification, IP67 ingress protection (dust-tight and protected against temporary immersion up to 1m for 30 minutes), and compliance with UL 508 and SAE J1171 Marine standards attest to its durability and reliability. Mechanical lifespan is rated up to 1,000,000 switching cycles. Connection is via 5/16" (M8) terminal studs with a recommended tightening torque of 90 in-lb (10.17 Nm) or 80 in-lb (9.04 Nm). It weighs approximately 0.45 kg.
