Detailed description
Detailed description
The Icom IC-M510EAIS EVO fixed marine VHF redefines onboard communication standards by integrating an AIS receiver and advanced wireless connectivity. Designed for demanding sailors, this Class D radio offers switchable transmit power of 25 W or 1 W and features a compact housing certified to IP68 and MIL-STD-810G, ensuring exceptional resistance to harsh marine environments.
Remote control via Wi-Fi and RS-M500 app
The IC-M510EAIS EVO’s major innovation lies in its integrated WLAN module (IEEE802.11 b/g/n). Using the free RS-M500 app, an iOS or Android smartphone can be turned into a full remote station. This feature allows making calls, controlling the radio, and viewing AIS targets from anywhere on the boat, offering unprecedented flexibility compared to traditional VHF radios that require an additional wired handset.
Integrated AIS receiver and NMEA 2000 interface
Safety is enhanced with the integrated AIS receiver that displays surrounding traffic directly on the VHF screen. AIS and positioning data (via the integrated GNSS/SBAS receiver) can be seamlessly shared with chartplotters from brands like Garmin, B&G, or Raymarine over the NMEA 2000 network. Unlike entry-level models in the IC-M330 series, this EVO version centralizes critical navigation data to effectively prevent collision risks.
Audio performance and hailer functions
In terms of acoustics, the Icom IC-M510EAIS EVO delivers 15 W of audio power to an external speaker, ensuring clear communications even in engine noise. It also features a powerful 25 W hailer function with automatic foghorn, a major asset for deck communication or reduced visibility, surpassing the capabilities of standard VHF radios in its class.
