Marine audio design

The JL Audio M6-880X-S-GwGw-i speakers feature an 8.8-inch (224 mm) injection-molded polypropylene cone woofer filled with mica, with a synthetic rubber surround. The 1.25-inch (32 mm) silk dome tweeter is designed for lower frequency extension, ensuring better sound integration with the woofer. Their design is optimized for "infinite-baffle" operation, allowing installation in various locations without requiring a dedicated enclosure.

Power and frequency response

Each speaker handles a continuous power (RMS) of 125 watts and is recommended for an amplifier power of 50 to 250 watts per channel. The nominal impedance is 4 ohms. These speakers cover a frequency response of 38 Hz to 20,000 Hz (± 3 dB) with a sensitivity of 90.5 dB @ 1W/1m. They benefit from JL Audio’s DMA (Dynamic Motor Analysis) technology for linear performance, reduced distortion, and increased low-frequency extension.

RGB Transflective™ LED lighting

These speakers are equipped with a patented JL Audio RGB Transflective™ LED lighting system. The LEDs are mounted on the speaker frame to illuminate the cone from below, providing glare-free lighting. The cones appear silver when the lighting is off. The lighting operates on a supply voltage of 10 to 14.4 VDC and a maximum current draw of 486 mA at 14.4 VDC. A JL Audio MLC-RW controller (sold separately) allows control of thousands of color variations.

Durability and installation

Certified for marine environments, the M6-880X-S-GwGw-i are designed to withstand saltwater, salt spray, and UV exposure, exceeding international standards. They feature UV-resistant polymer baskets and grilles, a marine-grade synthetic fiber surround, and an injection-molded polypropylene cone. Installation dimensions include a cutout diameter of 187 mm (7.375 inches) and a mounting depth of 127 mm (5.00 inches). The outer frame diameter is 224 mm (8.80 inches) with a front grille protrusion of 37 mm (1.45 inches).

Superior low-frequency output

These 8.8-inch speakers offer a 36% larger cone area and nearly double the excursion capability compared to 7.7-inch models, resulting in +6 dB superior low-frequency output. They can produce deep bass without requiring a dedicated subwoofer.
