Designed for demanding marine environments, the JL Audio MV800/8i marine amplifier is an 8-channel audio amplification solution featuring a full digital signal processor (DSP) and JL Audio’s second-generation NexD2™ Class D switching technology.
Audio Performance and Processing
The JL Audio MV800/8i delivers a total RMS power output of 800 watts, distributed as 75 watts per channel at 4 ohms or 100 watts per channel at 2 ohms. In bridged mode, it provides 200 watts per 4 channels at 4 ohms. Its frequency response ranges from 12 Hz to 24 kHz (+0, -1dB), with a signal-to-noise ratio of 99 dB and total harmonic distortion (THD) below 1%. The integrated 24-bit, 96 kHz DSP enables precise optimization of each channel via the JL Audio TüN™ app on PC, tablet, or smartphone. Adjustments include input routing, mixing, gain controls with clip indication, fully adjustable high-pass, low-pass, and band-pass filters (with selectable slopes from 6 to 48 dB/octave), a 10-band equalizer, phase and polarity control, and time alignment in 0.02 ms increments.
Marine Design and Connectivity
Its compact die-cast alloy chassis, coated with marine-grade powder and fitted with corrosion-resistant connectors, ensures durability in marine environments. It features 8 configurable preamp/speaker-level inputs (accepting signals up to 16V RMS) with balanced differential inputs for effective noise rejection, and 4 processed analog preamp outputs (4V RMS). JLid™ connectivity allows integration of optional accessories such as the Network Hub, VXi-BTC Bluetooth communicator, or M-DRC-50 digital remote control. The amplifier also includes automatic turn-on via DC offset or signal detection, and advanced overheat protection via an innovative circuit. For IPX2 water resistance, vertical mounting with connections facing downward is recommended.
Installation and Technical Specifications
The amplifier dimensions are 355 mm (width) x 52 mm (height) x 176 mm (depth) with a weight of 2.54 kg (5.6 lbs). It is designed for 12V DC negative-ground electrical systems and requires 4 AWG power and ground cables with an 80-amp fuse. Up to six sound presets can be stored for quick recall via the optional M-DRC-50.
