Detailed description
Detailed description
The Simrad HALO 3004 is a 130W pulse-compression radar system designed for advanced marine navigation. Equipped with a 4-foot open-array antenna, it provides improved target detection and clarity, with an equivalent power of a 25 kW magnetron radar. Its maximum range reaches 96 nautical miles, and its minimum range is 6 meters, enabling detailed monitoring of both near and far zones.
Technology and Performance
This radar integrates pulse-compression technology for optimal accuracy at short and long ranges, facilitating navigation in marinas and the detection of storms or obstacles. The HALO 3004 allows simultaneous dual-range operation, enabling monitoring of distant weather cells while keeping an eye on nearby navigation aids and vessels. Antenna rotation speed is variable from 16 to 48 rpm depending on the operating mode, with a beam width of 1.8° (-3 dB), reducible to 1.3° in beam sharpening mode.
Integrated Features
The Doppler VelocityTrack™ technology identifies moving targets via color coding, aiding collision avoidance by highlighting potential threats. The system offers pre-programmed operating modes (Harbour, Offshore, Weather, Bird) for simplified use. The Bird+ mode concentrates the 130W power for bird detection, enabling the location of fish shoals up to 8 nautical miles away. The ZoneTrack™ function tracks up to 50 targets within a defined zone, providing information on their course and speed. Dangerous target alerts are also provided for radar and AIS targets.
Installation and Compatibility
The Simrad HALO 3004 radar is compatible with 12V/24V systems. Its pedestal and antenna carry an IPX6 waterproof rating, while the RI-50 interface module is rated IPX5. The system is designed for instant readiness from standby mode and in 16 to 25 seconds after power-up (InstantOn™). It shares the same footprint as previous HALO radars, simplifying upgrades. Compatibility is ensured with Simrad chartplotters NSS™, NSX™, NSO™, and GO™. The total weight of the kit (pedestal, antenna, and accessories) is approximately 30 kg (66.1 lbs). The system software requires a version check (5.3.14 after update) and confirmation of antenna height and length settings (compatible with 3, 4, or 6 ft antennas).
