Detailed description
The Simrad Pro R5027 HALO 5006 CAT1 radar system is an X-band pulse-compression radar, IMO Category 1 compliant for SOLAS vessels and high-speed craft. Designed for professional navigation, it integrates a 25 kW pulse-compression top-mast transceiver and a 1.8 m (6 ft) open array antenna. The system provides precise target detection at short and long ranges while reducing footprint.
HALO Technology and Signal Processing
Using HALO pulse-compression technology, the Simrad Pro R5027 combines the benefits of traditional pulse radars and Broadband 4G™ systems, ensuring optimal target separation. The "Beam Sharpening" feature enhances target resolution, delivering clarity comparable to a larger antenna. Advanced digital signal processing includes automatic and manual sea and rain clutter controls, with preset filters for different conditions and a self-adapting rain algorithm.
Performance and System Integration
The system operates on 110 / 230 V AC and includes an R5000 "black-box" radar processor. The antenna offers variable rotation speeds from 16 to 48 rpm and a horizontal beam width of 1.35° (-3 dB). The R5027 HALO 5006 supports instantaneous tracking of 100 radar targets and can track 2,500 targets in the background. It displays up to 300 AIS targets, with 100 activable for detailed information. The R5000 interface is intuitive, featuring keypad and trackball controls. Ethernet 10/100 Base-T RJ-45 connectivity is compatible with dedicated R5000 series displays (such as M5024 or M5027) and can integrate with NSO evo2 systems for radar data display. The system supports multi-radar and multi-station configurations.
Advanced Features and Durability
Dedicated operational modes such as "Harbor", "Offshore", "Weather", and "Bird Finder" automatically adjust radar settings. "InstantOn™" reduces startup time to 16–25 seconds, and "Dual Range" enables simultaneous monitoring of two distance ranges. Durability is ensured by solid-state design, brushless motor, and sealed gearbox, reducing maintenance requirements. The system complies with low electromagnetic emissions standards.
