Detailed description
The Simrad RS40-B marine VHF radio is a communication and safety system designed for marine environments. It integrates an AIS Class B transponder, a GPS receiver, and DSC Class D functions for enhanced situational awareness and improved collision prevention. With a 25 W transmission power, the RS40-B ensures reliable communication on international, US, Canadian, and European channels.
Integrated features and connectivity
The Simrad RS40-B stands out with its integrated AIS Class B transponder, allowing not only to receive AIS data from surrounding vessels but also to transmit your own vessel’s position. This RXTX AIS capability significantly improves your visibility to other users. A GPS receiver is integrated, with the option to use the provided external GPS-500 antenna for optimal location accuracy.
NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183 connectivity ensures seamless integration with other Simrad electronic equipment on board, enabling the display of AIS targets and navigation data directly on your chartplotter or multifunction display. The RS40-B also offers advanced features such as support for up to two optional H40 wireless handsets with inductive charging, intercom mode, Track Buddy for locating up to five other VHF radios, a 30 W deck speaker, and a MOB (man overboard) function.
Design and installation
Designed to withstand marine conditions, the Simrad RS40-B radio is waterproof to IPX7 standards. Its removable hand microphone can be connected at the front or rear of the unit for flexible installation and minimal footprint. The RS40-B’s discreet design is intended to blend with Simrad multifunction displays. The unit supports bracket mounting or flush installation, with a flush kit and mounting bracket included. Its weight is 1.46 kg and its dimensions (without bracket) are 201.2 mm (W) x 97.8 mm (H) x 163.3 mm (D).
