Designed for marine applications requiring a compact and autonomous power solution, the Victron Energy Lithium SuperPack 12.8V/20Ah (M5) battery integrates a battery management system (BMS) and a safety switch. This integration simplifies installation by eliminating the need for additional external components, distinguishing this range from more complex lithium-ion systems. The internal BMS protects against overcharging, excessive discharging, and extreme temperatures (charge cutoff below 0 °C and discharge cutoff below -20 °C), extending battery lifespan.
Performance and efficiency
With LiFePO4 chemistry, this battery delivers a nominal voltage of 12.8 V and a capacity of 20 Ah at 25 °C, corresponding to a nominal energy of 256 Wh. The SuperPack range features a round-trip energy efficiency of 92%, outperforming lead-acid batteries (80%). Unlike lead-acid batteries, Lithium SuperPack batteries do not require a full charge to optimize lifespan and can accept partial charges without significant degradation. The 12.8V/20Ah model supports a maximum continuous discharge current of 30 A and a peak current of 80 A (10 seconds), with a maximum continuous charge current of 15 A. Its lifespan is estimated at 2500 cycles at 80% depth of discharge (DoD) and 25 °C.
Installation and compatibility
Lithium SuperPack batteries can be connected in parallel to increase capacity, with no limit on the number of units, but series connection is not permitted. The 12.8V/20Ah model is the most compact in the 12.8V SuperPack range, which also includes 60 Ah, 100 Ah, and 200 Ah versions, as well as a 25.6V/50Ah option. Its dimensions of 167 x 181 x 77 mm and weight of 3 kg facilitate integration in confined spaces. It features M5 terminals and has an IP43 protection rating, allowing vertical mounting or on its longest sides, except when terminals are facing downward. The operating temperature range is -20 °C to +50 °C for discharging and 0 °C to +45 °C for charging.
