Integrel: Innovative Marine Energy Solutions

Integrel is a British manufacturer specializing in the design of marine energy systems based on alternators. Their E-Power technology revolutionizes onboard energy management by converting the engine alternator into a high-power generator coupled with a smart battery charger. This approach allows sailboats and motorboats to generate significant energy while under power, often eliminating the need for an auxiliary generator. Recognized for its energy efficiency and seamless integration with existing systems, Integrel is a preferred solution for sailors seeking to optimize their electrical autonomy. Skysat provides expert installation and configuration of these systems to ensure reliable energy production tailored to your needs.

E-Power System: Alternator-Integrated Generator

The Integrel E-Power system replaces the standard engine alternator with a specially designed high-power alternator capable of generating up to 9 kW of electrical energy. Unlike a conventional alternator, limited to a few dozen amps, the E-Power can supply several hundred amps for rapid battery charging and direct powering of onboard equipment.

  • High-power alternator: Reinforced 12V or 24V alternator capable of producing between 120A and 750A depending on the model. Designed to operate across a range of engine speeds (idle to full throttle) while maintaining optimal energy efficiency. Liquid-cooled for heat dissipation during prolonged use.
  • Multi-stage charge regulator: Advanced control electronics that automatically manage charging phases (bulk, absorption, float) based on battery type (AGM, gel, lithium, flooded lead-acid). Dynamic adjustment of charging current to maximize battery lifespan and prevent overcharging.
  • Engine integration without modifications: Direct replacement of the original alternator without mechanical engine modifications. Compatible with most marine diesel engines (Yanmar, Volvo Penta, Nanni, Vetus). Simplified installation with adapted mounting brackets and standardized electrical connections.

Smart Energy Management

The Integrel system integrates smart energy management that optimizes electrical production based on real-time onboard needs, battery state, and engine speed. This automation maximizes energy efficiency and reduces fuel consumption.

  • Real-time monitoring: Display of charging parameters (voltage, current, power, battery state of charge) on a dedicated control screen or via an NMEA 2000 interface. Automatic alerts for threshold exceedances or malfunctions.
  • Charge prioritization: Ability to set charging priorities for different battery banks (house, start, electric propulsion). Automatic management of energy distribution to ensure critical battery availability.
  • Fuel-saving mode: Engine speed optimization function to achieve the best balance between energy production and fuel consumption. Automatic suggestion of the ideal engine speed based on battery state of charge.

Compatibility with Lithium Batteries

Integrel systems are fully compatible with lithium batteries (LiFePO4), increasingly popular in boating for their energy density, longevity, and fast-charging capability. The E-Power charge regulator automatically adapts to the specific charging profiles of lithium batteries.

  • Programmable charging profiles: Fine-tuning of voltage and current settings according to battery manufacturer specifications. Consideration of thermal and electrical charge limits to ensure safety and cell longevity.
  • BMS (Battery Management System) communication: Interface with lithium battery management systems for coordinated charge control. Automatic charge termination in case of BMS alerts (excessive temperature, cell imbalance, overcurrent).
  • High-power fast charging: Capability to charge large lithium battery banks (up to several hundred kWh) within hours of engine operation, providing exceptional energy autonomy for offshore passages.

Installation and Maintenance

Installing an Integrel system requires technical expertise to ensure robust mechanical assembly, correctly sized electrical wiring, and appropriate software configuration. Skysat has the necessary experience to professionally and reliably integrate these systems.

  • Cable sizing: Precise calculation of cable cross-sections based on maximum charging current and wiring length. Use of large-gauge cables (50 mm² to 95 mm²) to minimize losses and prevent overheating. Installation of professional crimped terminals and appropriate fuse protection.
  • Reinforced mechanical mounting: Verification of alternator mount strength and reinforcement if necessary to support the weight and vibrations of the high-power alternator. Precise alignment of the alternator pulley with the engine pulley to prevent premature belt wear.
  • Adapted transmission belt: Replacement of the original alternator belt with a reinforced belt (multi-rib poly-V type) capable of transmitting high power. Belt tension adjusted according to manufacturer specifications to prevent slippage and rapid wear.
  • Configuration and calibration: Programming of the charge regulator based on battery type and capacity. Complete load testing post-installation to verify system stability and fault absence. Crew training on system use and monitoring.

💡 Skysat Tip

The Integrel E-Power system is particularly suited to sailboats with regular engine periods (harbor entries/exits, windless zones). To maximize efficiency, run the engine at moderate speed (1500–2000 rpm) for sufficient duration to fully charge the batteries. Ensure adequate ventilation in the engine room to dissipate heat generated by the alternator and charge regulator. Finally, pair the Integrel system with a comprehensive energy monitoring solution (e.g., Victron Cerbo GX) to visualize energy flows in real time and optimize onboard electrical consumption.
