Detailed description
The FURUNO IF-NMEAFI is a junction box and converter designed to integrate analog sensors into an NMEA2000 network. It converts analog data to CAN bus format, enabling older equipment to connect to modern navigation systems.
Features and compatibility
This junction box features an NMEA2000 V2.0-compatible CAN bus port and three selectable sensor ports. It supports a variety of analog inputs, including wind speed and direction signals (0-5 V sine wave for speed, 0-5 V pulse signal for direction), tank gauges (0-300 ohm range empty to full), boat speed (dry contact 0-12 V), and water temperature (thermistor 8-42 kilo-ohms). The IF-NMEAFI supports a wide range of NMEA2000 PGNs (Parameter Group Numbers) for comprehensive data transmission. By default, the unit is configured for a tank gauge, and only one sensor can be connected at a time.
Technical specifications and installation
The converter operates on 15 VDC power with a maximum current draw of 0.15 A (including external sensor) and has a Load Equivalency Number (LEN) of 3. Its compact design simplifies installation. It is built to withstand marine environments, with IP56 protection against dust and powerful water jets. It operates in an ambient temperature range of -15°C to +55°C and relative humidity of 93% or less at +40°C, while meeting IEC 60945 Ed.4 vibration standards. Configuration can be performed via Furuno FI70 data repeaters, TZtouch2/3/XL multifunction displays (MFD), or Suzuki SMD7/9/12/16 MFDs. It also supports NMEA2000 device instance assignment, configurable via NavNet TZTouch2/Touch3 MFDs with IF-NMEAFI software version 1.02 or later.
