Detailed description
Detailed description
Designed for through-hull installation, the Garmin Airmar SS60 depth sounder (12° tilt) is a 600 W solution providing depth and water temperature sensing. Operating on two frequencies, 50 kHz and 200 kHz, it is suited to vessels requiring accurate readings in varied conditions.
Tilted Element™ technology and performance
Garmin Airmar’s Tilted Element™ technology is built into this depth sounder, allowing the transducer to compensate for hull angles from 8° to 15° thanks to its fixed 12°-tilted ceramic element. This design ensures a vertically oriented beam, optimizing echo returns and measurement accuracy. The sounder offers a beam width of 45° at 50 kHz and 12° at 200 kHz. It can reach a maximum depth of 366 m (1,200 ft) at 50 kHz and 213 m (700 ft) at 200 kHz, with an overall effective range between 800 and 1,200 ft.
Design and installation
The stainless steel housing of the Garmin Airmar SS60 is engineered for durability in marine environments. Its low profile, protruding only 5 mm (3/16") below the hull, minimizes drag and does not affect navigation performance. It is compatible with fiberglass and wooden hulls, requiring a 60 mm (2-3/8") hole for installation, or 70 mm (2-3/4") for metal hulls. The 10 m (33 ft) cable is fitted with an 8-pin connector, compatible with Garmin fishfinders (an adapter cable is required for Garmin models with 6-pin connectors). This transducer is ideal for small sport and commercial fishing vessels up to 25 ft in length.
