Detailed description
Detailed description
The Garmin GMR 2534 xHD3 radar, consisting of an array and a pedestal, is a 25 kW magnetron radar system with a 4 ft (122 cm) open array antenna. It is designed for marine navigation, obstacle detection, and fish-finding, offering detection ranges from 20 meters to 96 nautical miles.
Advanced detection capabilities
This radar integrates technologies to improve target clarity and detection. Scan Averaging technology, a new feature for Garmin magnetron radars, filters sea clutter and interference to display more consistent targets. The angular adjustment of target size uses pulse expansion and angular processing to optimize the shape of objects on screen, facilitating interpretation across all range scales.
Navigation and safety features
The GMR 2534 xHD3 displays "True Echo Trails", historical traces of boats on the water, to distinguish moving targets and identify potential collision threats. Dual Range with overlay allows simultaneous display of close and distant targets on a shared screen, with independent range settings. Both ranges can be overlaid on a chart. MARPA target tracking can follow up to 30 targets for collision avoidance (requires appropriate sensors, sold separately). A guard zone can be configured to alert the user if an object enters it. The radar is also equipped with a dynamic sea filter that automatically adjusts gain to reduce clutter based on sea conditions (calm, moderate, rough).
Fishing optimization and integration
The Auto Bird Gain function and "Bird Mode" preset help locate flocks of birds on the water’s surface, indicating the presence of fish schools. The radar offers dynamic automatic gain for optimal settings in various environments (harbors, coastal, offshore). Its open-loop drive motor is designed for quiet operation. With a horizontal beam width of 1.8° and high antenna gain, it ensures clear target identification at distance. It also supports radar overlay on the chartplotter screen (with appropriate sensors) and dual radar support.
Technical specifications and installation
This radar system operates on 10 to 32 V DC, with 18 W standby power and 70 W normal transmission power. It has an IPX6 waterproof rating and wind resistance of 80 knots, extendable to 100 knots with an optional voltage converter. Rotation speeds are 24 and 48 rpm. Installation requires mounting on a flat and sturdy surface, with careful positioning to minimize obstructions and avoid radiofrequency exposure. The kit includes the mounting template, primer (Petrolatum Primer), plastic shoulder washers, flat washers, lock washers, and hex nuts.
