Detailed description
Detailed description
Designed for advanced marine navigation, the Garmin GMR Fantom™ 124 beam radar is a 120 W solid-state system featuring a 4-foot (121.92 cm) open array. It delivers transmit power equivalent to a 15 kW magnetron, enabling target detection from 6 meters to 96 nautical miles. Its 1.8° horizontal beam width ensures high-resolution imaging.
Advanced detection technologies
The GMR Fantom™ 124 integrates MotionScope™ technology, which uses Doppler to identify and highlight moving targets (vessels, severe weather, bird flocks) on the display. These targets are color-coded based on whether they are approaching or receding, aiding collision avoidance and fishing zone localization. Pulse compression technology maximizes transmitted energy for improved target detection and identification. True Echo Trails display fading traces, corrected for boat rotation (with compatible autopilot or heading sensor), for rapid tracking of potential threats.
Features and integration
This radar offers 24 and 48 RPM rotation speeds, with 48 RPM available in Single Range mode, MotionScope disabled, and for ranges ≤ 12 NM. The Dual Range function enables simultaneous display of short and long range on your Garmin chartplotter. The MARPA target tracking allows tracking up to 30 targets, requiring a compatible heading sensor sold separately. Functions like Auto Bird Gain, Dynamic Auto Gain, and Dynamic Sea Filter automatically optimize settings for various conditions. Overlay Radar superimposes radar imagery over the marine chart. Adjustable range markers (VRM) and electronic bearing lines (EBL) are also available for quick measurements. The system operates on 10–32 V DC and has an IPX6 waterproof rating.
