Detailed description
Detailed description
The Garmin GMR Fantom™ 126 marine radar is a 120-watt solid-state detection solution designed for detailed, high-resolution imaging. It provides target detection, collision avoidance, and situational awareness for maritime navigation. This open-array model can detect targets as close as 6 meters (20 feet) and up to 96 nautical miles, offering versatility for various sailing conditions.
Performance and technical specifications
With a 120-watt output equivalent to a 15 kW magnetron radar, the GMR Fantom™ 126 features a 6-foot (182.9 cm) open-array antenna. It offers two rotation speeds: 24 RPM for reduced power consumption and 48 RPM for faster screen updates, the latter available in single-range mode with MotionScope™ disabled and on ranges ≤12 nautical miles. The 1.25-degree horizontal beam width ensures precise imaging of coastlines, vessels, and weather conditions, allowing detection of weak targets at distance. The vertical beam width is 23 degrees. The unit is rated IPX6 for resistance to powerful water jets and operates on 10–32 V DC power. The pedestal measures approximately 42.1 x 36.4 x 27.1 cm and weighs 15.7 kg, while the antenna weighs 7.3 kg. It supports a maximum wind load of 80 knots.
Advanced navigation features
The GMR Fantom™ 126 includes MotionScope™ technology, which uses Doppler to identify and color moving targets, indicating their relative direction to your vessel. Pulse compression optimizes energy for improved target detection and identification. The dual-range function allows simultaneous display of close-up and distant views on a shared chartplotter screen. Radar overlay superimposes radar images over the marine chart (an autopilot or heading sensor is recommended). Bird gain automatically adjusts gain to locate bird flocks. Dynamic auto gain and dynamic sea filter adapt settings to environmental conditions. True echo trails display historical trails for quick collision threat identification. MARPA target tracking allows tracking up to 30 targets for collision avoidance (requires heading sensor). A configurable guard zone alerts the user if an object enters it. Variable range markers (VRM) and electronic bearing lines (EBL) are available for quick measurements. Dual-radar support provides redundancy. The unit is designed for intuitive installation and use.
