Detailed description
Detailed description
The Garmin GMR Fantom™ 54 is a 50-watt solid-state radar system with a 4-foot beam antenna. It is designed for high-resolution target detection at ranges from 6 meters to 72 nautical miles (133 km), including in demanding weather conditions such as fog or rain.
Advanced Detection Technology
This radar integrates MotionScope™ technology, which uses the Doppler effect to identify and highlight moving targets, whether they are approaching or receding, using distinct color codes. This feature aids in collision avoidance, locating seabirds, and tracking weather fronts. Pulse compression technology maximizes transmitted energy for improved target detection and identification. The GMR Fantom™ 54 offers a horizontal beam width of 1.8 degrees, ensuring detailed radar imagery.
Navigation and Monitoring Features
The Garmin GMR Fantom™ 54 supports antenna rotation speeds of 24 and 48 revolutions per minute, with the higher speed available for ranges under 12 nautical miles and MotionScope disabled. It allows radar overlay on chartplotter displays, even in split-screen mode, and offers dual-range functionality to display short- and long-range images simultaneously. Tools like radar wakes (Echo Trails) help visualize target movement history, while MARPA target tracking can monitor up to 30 targets. Dynamic automatic gains and sea filters adjust to conditions to optimize image clarity.
Installation and Integration
This radar system operates on a 10 to 32 V DC power input with a typical consumption of 65 W, peaking at 170 W. Its IPX6 waterproof rating ensures protection against heavy seas. The pedestal weighs 15.8 kg, and the 4-foot (121.92 cm) antenna weighs 5.2 kg. For installation, a 15-meter bent power cable and a 15-meter bent network cable are included. The radar must be mounted at a safe distance of 30 cm from a magnetic compass.
