Detailed description
Detailed description
The Garmin GPSMAP 1223xsv, paired with the GMR 18 HD3 radar dome, provides a complete navigation and monitoring solution for vessels requiring reliable performance. Part of the 12x3 series, this multifunction display (MFD) traceur de cartes is part of Garmin’s current professional lineup, offering an upgrade over previous 7x2/9x2/12x2 series and serving as a robust alternative to older models such as the 8000, 8200, 8500, 7x1, 7400, and 7600 series in terms of integrated features.
Advanced video integration and monitoring
The GPSMAP 1223xsv excels in integrating network cameras, providing superior video monitoring across all Garmin Marine network displays. It allows simultaneous viewing of multiple video streams on a single combined screen and offers intuitive touchscreen control of cameras, including pinch-to-zoom and drag-to-pan/tilt. Custom presets can be stored for each camera, managing position and zoom. To connect standard Ethernet equipment such as cameras or network switches, a Garmin PoE isolation coupler (part number 010-10580-10) is required to protect the traceur. The system is compatible with FLIR cameras from the M and MD series, as well as Garmin GC 14 and GC 200 cameras, and includes a video encoder function for composite inputs. For optimal performance, Garmin recommends not streaming more than five video sources simultaneously.
Tracking and navigation features
This chartplotter supports advanced camera tracking functions, including heading lock (Compass Lock), vessel lock (Vessel Lock), and tracking of AIS, MARPA, or waypoint targets (slew-to-cue). These capabilities require connection of specific sensors via the Garmin Marine network or NMEA 2000, including a marine camera compatible with tracking (such as a recent FLIR IP camera), a GPS antenna, and a heading sensor (ideally with 9-axis data for yaw, pitch, and roll). For AIS tracking, a compatible AIS receiver is required, and for MARPA tracking, a compatible radar device is needed, such as the GMR 18 HD3 radar dome included in this pack. FLIR dual-payload models with composite V/IR and IR-only video outputs offer increased flexibility for thermal and visible spectrum viewing.
Design and installation
The GPSMAP 12x3 series is designed for flush-mount installation with optimized dimensions. A mounting template is provided to facilitate precise dashboard cutting. For upgrades from existing installations, an adapter plate (not included with the traceur but available separately) allows converting a cut originally made for a GPSMAP 12x2 to install a GPSMAP 12x3, simplifying the replacement process. The system ensures robustness suitable for marine environments, with standard safety warnings regarding immersion and operating temperature ranges. The GMR 18 HD3 radar dome complements this setup by providing essential high-definition radar capabilities for safety and navigation.
