Detailed description
Detailed description
The Garmin Panoptix PS70 is an advanced through-hull transducer designed to provide real-time sonar vision, essential for demanding navigators and sport fishermen. Part of Garmin’s innovative Panoptix range, known for its live sonar capabilities such as LiveScope XR or the PS22, the PS70-TH model stands out with its robust and permanent through-hull installation. Unlike transom-mounted or trolling motor versions, the PS70-TH is optimized for deep integration into the boat’s structure, ensuring superior hydrodynamic performance and stable readings even at high speeds, positioning it as a premium solution for continuous and reliable sonar data acquisition.
Optimized Installation and Compatibility
The Panoptix PS70-TH transducer is compatible with fiberglass hulls (with or without core) and metal hulls, offering great installation flexibility. It is supplied with a fairing block, required for hulls with a deadrise angle of up to 20 degrees, ensuring the transducer is aligned parallel to the waterline for optimal performance. Installation requires a specific anti-rotation bolt to prevent transducer movement during navigation, guaranteeing the longevity of the installation and data accuracy. Specific tools such as 42 mm or 38 mm drill bits and hole saws are required, highlighting the technical nature of the installation.
Technical Performance and System Integration
For optimal technical performance, transducer positioning is critical: forward of engines on powerboats, and at specific distances from the keel on sailboats, always in an area of non-turbulent water. Rigorous marine sealing with marine sealant is essential at all hull contact points to prevent leaks. Garmin recommends installation by a qualified professional to ensure hull integrity and system performance. After physical installation, a software update of the Garmin chartplotter is required via support.garmin.com to fully activate the Panoptix PS70 features, providing a complete and integrated live sonar experience.
