Detailed description
Detailed description
Designed for boats with hydraulic steering, the Garmin Reactor™ 40 hydraulic kit with SmartPump v2 and GHC™ 50 is a complete autopilot solution. This system integrates a SmartPump v2 pump, a Reactor 40 course computer unit (CCU), and a GHC 50 autopilot instrument for precise navigation. The SmartPump v2, measuring 197 x 190 x 244 mm and weighing 7.5 kg, is compatible with hydraulic cylinders from 4 to 24 cubic inches and provides full-to-full locking in 7 seconds for cylinders up to 17 cubic inches. It operates on 11.5–30 V DC with a 40 A fuse, draws less than 1 A in standby and up to 34 A peak, with a configurable flow rate from 0 to 2.4 L/min.
Advanced Precision and Integration
The Reactor 40 CCU, 91.4 mm in diameter and weighing 159 g, uses 9-axis solid-state AHRS technology. This unit can be mounted in any orientation, optimizing power consumption and minimizing heading errors. Its high-impact plastic housing is fully waterproof, meeting IEC 529 IPX7 standards. The GHC 50 instrument features a 5-inch (12.7 cm) WVGA anti-reflective touchscreen with 800 x 480 resolution and offers NMEA 2000, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and ANT+ connectivity for compatible remotes. It enables data and parameter sharing with Garmin MFDs and other network devices.
Features and Positioning
This autopilot system is distinguished by its ability to respond to water conditions, maintaining course even in pitch or roll, a critical feature for demanding sailing. Compared to previous-generation Garmin autopilot systems or modular solutions where each component is purchased separately, this kit provides optimized integration and a SmartPump v2 that eliminates the need to size the pump for the vessel, simplifying installation and improving thermal performance and reliability. Calibration is quick and straightforward using the Dockside Wizard and Sea Trial Wizard assistants. The Shadow Drive™ technology included in this kit automatically disengages the autopilot when manual intervention is applied to the wheel. Additional features such as heading hold, step turns, wind hold, and tacking/jibing are available with a compatible Garmin chartplotter and wind sensor (sold separately).
