Detailed description
Detailed description
The ICOM IC-M710 marine HF/VHF radio pack is a transceiver designed for reliable long-range maritime communications. With a maximum output power of 150 W PEP, this unit provides extended range, essential for offshore and transoceanic navigation, unlike VHF radios which are limited to line-of-sight range. Its robust construction, featuring a die-cast aluminum chassis and surface-mounted components, ensures durability in demanding marine environments, with an operating temperature range from -30°C to +60°C.
Communication Capabilities and Technical Performance
The ICOM IC-M710 supports a total of 1,136 channels, including 160 programmable channels, 242 ITU SSB duplex channels, 72 ITU SSB simplex channels, and 662 ITU FSK duplex channels. It covers all authorized bands between 1.6 and 27.5 MHz for transmission, and from 500 kHz to 29.9999 MHz for reception, functioning as a general-coverage receiver. Available modes are J3E (USB, LSB), H3E (AM), J2B (AFSK), F1B (FSK), R3E, and A1A (CW). Transmit power is selectable: 150 W, 60 W, or 20 W PEP for 1.6–23.999 MHz, and 60 W or 20 W PEP for 24.0–27.500 MHz. The active cooling system, combining a large fan and the aluminum chassis, allows continuous transmission at full power, even during demanding RTTY and NBDP operations.
IC-M710 Integration and Advanced Features
Featuring a large alphanumeric display for easy readability, the IC-M710 allows programming of seven-character channel names for station or vessel identification. The NMEA interface provides frequency and mode control. Automatic tuning, combined with the optional AT-140 or AT-130 antenna tuner, simplifies matching to various long-wire antennas, such as the AH-710, ensuring optimal efficiency across all HF bands from 1.5 to 30 MHz. The receiver offers a sensitivity of 0.5 μV (J3E, R3E, J2B, A1A at 12 dB SINAD) for the 1.8–29.9999 MHz band, and spurious response rejection greater than 70 dB. The unit includes a front-mounted speaker, audio-activated squelch, RF gain control, adjustable backlighting, and compatibility with weather fax reception systems. Dimensions are 291.4 × 116.4 × 315 mm, with a weight of 7.8 kg.
