Detailed description
Detailed description
Designed for demanding marine environments, the JL Audio M6-880X-S-GwGw flush-mount speakers are 2-way coaxial 8.8-inch (224 mm) models. They are optimized for infinite baffle (free-air) installation, eliminating the need for a dedicated enclosure and simplifying integration aboard vessels.
Acoustic design and power
These speakers feature a polypropylene cone woofer with mica injection and synthetic rubber surround. The long-throw design optimized by DMA (Dynamic Motor Analysis) enhances bass extension and acoustic output. The 1.25-inch (32 mm) silk dome tweeter, mounted on a bridge, is marine-specific and uses neodymium magnets with Ferrofluid cooling, improving response and power handling. Each speaker delivers 125 watts RMS, with recommended amplifier power of 50 to 250 watts per channel and a nominal impedance of 4 ohms. The frequency response ranges from 38 Hz to 25,000 Hz (± 3 dB), with a sensitivity of 90.5 dB (1 W/1 m).
Marine robustness and integration
The 2-way passive crossover network (2nd-order low-pass and 3rd-order high-pass) is housed within the woofer chassis, protected from vibration and corrosion, and includes a semiconductor (polyswitch) tweeter protection circuit. The marine-grade construction features UV- and corrosion-resistant polymer baskets and grilles. The baskets encapsulate the woofer motor systems to prevent corrosion, ensuring compliance with industrial standards for salt spray and moisture resistance. These 8.8-inch speakers offer a 36% larger cone area and nearly double the excursion capability compared to 7.7-inch and 6.5-inch models, delivering a +6 dB gain in bass frequencies. They are supplied with bright white sport grilles. For installation, the cutout diameter is 187 mm (7.375 inches), with a mounting depth of 127 mm (5.00 inches) and a front protrusion of 37 mm (1.45 inches).
