Detailed description
The JL Audio AP600/6 marine amplifier is a compact 6-channel Class D solution designed to deliver up to 600 watts RMS of total power in demanding marine environments. This amplifier features a tiered power design optimized for versatile onboard audio configurations.
Performance and versatile configurations
The JL Audio AP600/6 provides RMS power specific to each pair of channels. For channels 1 to 4, it delivers 50 watts x 4 at 4 ohms and 75 watts x 4 at 2 ohms. In bridged mode, these channels reach 150 watts x 2 at 4 ohms. Channels 5 and 6 provide higher power, with 100 watts x 2 at 4 ohms and 150 watts x 2 at 2 ohms. In bridged mode, the 5-6 pair can deliver 300 watts x 1 at 4 ohms. The frequency response extends from 20 Hz to 20 kHz (+0, -1 dB) across all channels, with a signal-to-noise ratio greater than 70 dB (A-weighted).
Adjustment and protection features
Adjustment capabilities include variable low-pass and high-pass filters from 20 to 500 Hz with a 12 dB/octave slope. An infrasonic filter is available for channels 5 and 6, adjustable from 20 to 50 Hz. A bass boost function allows increasing the signal from 0 to +18 dB at 37 Hz. Input sensitivity is switchable between a low range (200 mV-2 V RMS) and a high range (800 mV-8 V RMS). The amplifier operates on 9 to 16 VDC and requires a recommended 70A fuse with 4 AWG power/ground cable. It features 4-way protection circuitry against thermal overload, under-voltage, and speaker short circuits. An integrated LCD screen and top-panel controls allow adjustment of parameters such as GAIN, HPF/LPF filters, Bass Boost, and the infrasonic filter. The Easy Tune mode simplifies settings when paired with DSP-compatible audio systems.
Robust marine design
The amplifier’s cast alloy chassis, classified as IP67, resists dust and water ingress (excluding cables) and is spark-proof. These features ensure reliability in wet and exposed marine environments. It accepts both preamp-level (low-level) and speaker-level (high-level) inputs, though a speaker-to-RCA adapter is required for high-level inputs.
