The JL Audio M6-8IB-L-SbSb-4 marine subwoofer is an 8-inch (200 mm) woofer designed for marine environments. It is optimized for infinite-baffle mounting, allowing direct integration into a bulkhead without requiring a dedicated enclosure, though recommended enclosure volumes are provided for other configurations.

Design and Acoustic Performance

This subwoofer delivers 200 Watts RMS continuous power handling with a nominal impedance of 4 ohms. The recommended amplifier power range is 50 to 200 Watts. Its long-excursion design optimized by DMA and robust suspension system contribute to precise and powerful low-frequency reproduction. The one-way linear excursion (Xmax) is 14 mm (0.53 in) and sensitivity is 86.8 dB at 1W/1m. Adding this subwoofer allows main speakers to focus on midrange and high frequencies, improving overall audio clarity and volume.

Marine Durability and Construction

The JL Audio M6-8IB-L-SbSb-4 is built to exceed industry standards for salt fog and UV exposure, ensuring durable performance in marine environments. It features an injection-molded polypropylene cone with UV inhibitors and a synthetic rubber surround. The corrosion-resistant polymer basket and marine-grade synthetic spider ensure enhanced durability. Connections are made via spade terminals. All M6 speakers are manufactured at JL Audio’s Miramar, Florida facility using global components and materials.

Dimensions and Installation

The subwoofer has an overall diameter of 260 mm (10.25 in) and a cutout diameter of 219 mm (8.625 in). Mounting depth is 160 mm (6.30 in). The black Luxe fine-mesh front grille extends only 12 mm (0.48 in) from the mounting surface, offering a discreet aesthetic. The speaker displacement volume is 2.07 liters (0.073 ft³). For sealed enclosure installation, a minimum volume of 42.5 liters (1.5 ft³) is recommended, with an optimal volume of 56.6 liters (2.00 ft³). For ported enclosures, a volume of 42.5 liters (1.5 ft³) is advised. Pre-drilling recommendations for #8 screws are provided: 7/64" for fiberglass 0.125" thick or less, and 1/8" for fiberglass thicker than 0.125".

Integrated RGB LED Lighting

This model includes integrated RGB LED lighting (optional). The LED functionality requires a separate 12V wiring harness for each speaker. Individual wires can be wired for up to seven fixed LED colors. An adjustable RGB lighting controller is sold separately for advanced control. A 750 mA inline fast-blow fuse must be installed on the positive LED wire of each speaker to protect the LEDs and speaker from overcurrent.
