Detailed description
Detailed description
The MASTERVOLT MLI Ultra 12/3000 Lithium Battery (part number 66013000) is a high-performance energy storage solution designed specifically for marine applications and demanding electrical systems. Part of Mastervolt’s MLI Ultra range, which also includes the 12/6000 and 24/6000 models, this 12 V, 230 Ah battery is a robust choice for service battery banks requiring reliable energy and long service life. It outperforms traditional batteries by offering three times the lifespan and a significant reduction in size and weight, up to 70 %.
Exceptional performance and longevity
Based on Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) technology, the MLI Ultra 12/3000 delivers a nominal energy capacity of 3000 Wh. Its design ensures a lifespan of 3500 cycles at 80 % depth of discharge (DOD) at an ambient temperature of 25 °C, with a recommended maximum charge rate of C/3 (≤ 80 A) and a recommended discharge rate of C/2 (≤ 120 A). It supports a maximum charge current of 230 A and a continuous discharge current of up to 200 A, with peak discharge currents of 1800 A for 10 seconds. Its low initial internal resistance of 3.52 mΩ ensures high energy efficiency. The battery maintains performance across a wide operating and storage temperature range, from -25 °C to 50 °C, and features a self-discharge rate of less than 4 % per month at 20 °C.
Safety and integrated management
At the core of the MLI Ultra 12/3000 is a proprietary Battery Management System (BMS). This BMS ensures precise voltage balancing across each individual cell and continuously monitors their temperature to prevent failure. It includes protections against overvoltage, undervoltage, and overheating, ensuring safe operation. An external safety relay is required for this battery (e.g., the Mastervolt 7700B-BSS for 12 V systems), adding a critical safety layer by physically isolating the battery bank in any critical situation. The BMS’s self-learning balancing algorithm optimizes charge cycles and extends the battery’s overall lifespan.
Connectivity and system integration
The MLI Ultra 12/3000 battery is designed for seamless integration into modern marine electrical systems. It communicates via MasterBus, CZone, and NMEA2000 protocols, enabling precise monitoring of state of charge (SOC) and consumed Ah, as well as automated charging cycles with compatible chargers and alternators. This advanced connectivity, absent in more basic batteries, maximizes charging efficiency and simplifies system diagnostics. It can be connected in parallel without limit or in series up to 10 batteries (for systems beyond 48 V, a separate battery box is required), offering flexibility for various configurations.
Robust design and simplified installation
With dimensions of 341 x 197 x 355 mm and a weight of 25.4 kg, the MLI Ultra 12/3000 features a robust, watertight enclosure with an IP65 rating for its electronic housing, making it resistant to marine environments and shocks. Its M8 terminals and "plug-and-play" design simplify installation, which is recommended in a vertical position but can also be mounted on its long side. An integrated thermal heating pad ensures optimal charging performance even at sub-zero temperatures. The battery is CE, E-Mark, RVIA, UN38.3, and UL1642 (for cells) certified, attesting to its compliance with international safety and quality standards.
