Detailed description
Detailed description
The Navico HDI Skimmer M/H 455/800 7-pin transducer is a versatile transom-mounted transducer designed for fishing and recreational navigation systems. It integrates Navico’s Hybrid Dual Imaging (HDI) technology, combining the functions of a Broadband Sounder and DownScan Imaging. This setup allows users to obtain detailed views of the seabed and underwater structures, as well as reliable fish detection in the water column.
HDI Technology and Operating Frequencies
The HDI Skimmer transducer operates on multiple frequencies to optimize performance based on conditions. For traditional sonar, it uses Medium and High CHIRP frequencies, providing excellent target separation and enhanced clarity. In DownScan Imaging mode, it operates at 455 kHz and 800 kHz, delivering near-photographic images of submerged structures and fish schools. This combination of frequencies and technologies offers a significant advantage over single-frequency or single-technology transducers, positioning the HDI Skimmer as an effective intermediate solution between traditional 2D sonar and more advanced imaging technologies such as Navico’s TotalScan or Active Imaging, or Garmin’s ClearVü/SideVü.
Compatibility and Installation
Equipped with a 7-pin connector, this transducer is compatible with a wide range of Navico multifunction displays and sounders, including Lowrance Elite and Hook series models and certain Simrad GO/Cruise units that support this connector type. The 6-meter cable provided facilitates installation on most small to medium-sized boats. Its transom-mount design ensures relatively simple installation and adequate hydrodynamic performance at moderate speeds. Unlike through-hull transducers, transom mounting offers installation flexibility and ease of maintenance.
