Detailed description
Detailed description
The Simrad ForwardScan Long-Stem depth sounder kit is a forward-scanning sonar transducer designed for navigation safety and confidence. It provides a clear two-dimensional view of the seabed ahead of the boat, ideal for shallow, unknown, or poorly charted waters.
Advanced Sonar Technology
This transducer operates at a frequency of 180 kHz, minimizing interference with traditional 200 kHz depth or fish-finding transducers. The ForwardScan offers a forward range of 4 to 5 times the current depth, and up to 8 times the depth under optimal conditions. This allows real-time anticipation of submerged obstacles or seabed variations.
Installation and Compatibility
Designed for through-hull mounting, the Long-Stem model features an extended stainless-steel through-hull fitting and a compensating block. This design accommodates hulls up to 47.6 mm (1 7/8 inches) thick and keel angles from 0 to 28 degrees with the compensating block. It requires a standard 2-inch diameter through-hull opening. The kit includes the ForwardScan transducer, a long stainless-steel through-hull sleeve with a self-sealing valve, a compensating block, and a blanking plug. The transducer incorporates a water-temperature sensor. It connects to the StructureScan HD port on compatible Simrad displays such as the NSS Evo2, NSO Evo2, GO XSE, or to a SonarHub sounder module.
Integrated Features
The ForwardScan Long-Stem allows depth data to be overlaid directly on marine charts, with color-coded segments (green for safe, yellow for warning, red for critical) indicating deep, medium, and shallow zones ahead of the vessel. Alert depths are customizable based on draft. A shallow-depth alarm alerts the helmsman. The stainless-steel through-hull fitting is equipped with a self-sealing valve, enabling the transducer to be removed and reinserted for maintenance without hauling the boat out of the water. The bottom-tracking function displays a clear, solid terrain, providing an easy-to-interpret side view of underwater environments with real-time updates.
