The Simrad Pro R5024 HALO 5004 CAT2(H) radar system is an X-band solid-state solution designed for commercial marine applications. It integrates a 130W transmitter with pulse compression, providing precise detection and improved situational awareness for enhanced maritime safety. The system includes a 4-foot antenna and a 30-meter interconnection cable, operating on 24 V DC power.
Performance and Technical Specifications
This radar offers a range from 6 meters to 89 km (48 NM) with 18 range settings available. Its solid-state technology enables instant-on operation (Instant On™) without warm-up time, thanks to the absence of a magnetron. The R5024 HALO 5004 features selectable antenna rotation speeds of 22 or 44 RPM, suitable for various sailing conditions and operational modes. The transmitter frequency is in the X-band, from 9.4 to 9.5 GHz, with a peak output power of 25 W. The radar is compatible with relative winds up to 51 m/sec (100 knots).
Advanced Features and Integration
The system includes versatile radar modes, including Offshore, Harbor, and Weather, which automatically adjust parameters for optimal imaging. An automatic Bird Finder mode can detect diving birds up to six nautical miles. The radar provides automatic tracking of thousands of targets within a 24 NM zone, displaying up to 100 targets simultaneously on screen and managing 2,500 targets in the background. It fully complies with IMO/SOLAS standards and is designed to integrate with existing Simrad R5000 systems, functioning as a standalone system or within an advanced multi-installation radar network.

The Simrad Pro R5024 HALO 5004 is built for durability, featuring solid-state electronics, a brushless motor, and a sealed gearbox, reducing maintenance requirements. The scanner unit (cable-free) weighs 6.9 kg. The pedestal and antenna are rated IPX6 for water resistance, while the RI-50 interface module is rated IPX5. Operating temperature ranges from -25°C to +55°C. Installation is simplified with simplified connectors and pre-wired power and Ethernet cables. A minimum clearance of 0.7 meters (2.3 feet) must be maintained from the vessel’s compass. Power consumption ranges from 17-29 W during operation and 3.9 W in standby (at 13.8 V DC), with a maximum consumption of 380 W (24V) at maximum wind speed.
