Detailed description
Detailed description
The Skylla-i 24V 80A 230V battery charger from VICTRON ENERGY is an advanced marine charging solution designed for demanding environments. Part of the Skylla-i range, this model features two isolated outputs: a main output of 80A and a secondary output limited to approximately 4A, intended for the starter battery. This architecture allows simultaneous and independent management of two battery banks (one main and one starter), offering flexibility suited to marine installations. Compared to more basic chargers, the Skylla-i stands out as a reference for installations requiring reliable power and advanced management features.
Performance and Robustness in Marine Environments
This charger integrates a 7-stage adaptive charging algorithm for lead-acid batteries, optimizing absorption time based on depth of discharge to prevent overcharging or ensure complete recharge. For Li-ion batteries (LiFePO4), a specific 3-stage algorithm is available, with on/off control or via the CAN bus. The BatterySafe mode automatically limits voltage increase to prevent damage from excessive gassing, while the Storage mode reduces floating voltage to 26.4V to minimize aging and corrosion during prolonged inactivity, with a weekly refresh cycle. These advanced features ensure extended battery life and reduced maintenance.
Integration and Durability
The Skylla-i 24V 80A 230V features an epoxy powder-coated aluminum housing, a drip shield, and stainless steel fasteners, ensuring resistance to harsh marine environments (heat, humidity, salt air). The circuit boards are protected by an acrylic coating for maximum corrosion resistance, and temperature sensors ensure stable operation by automatically reducing current in extreme conditions, up to 60°C (full rated current up to 40°C). The device includes a CAN bus interface (NMEA2000) via two RJ45 connectors for communication and synchronization, as well as remote control options and temperature and voltage compensation for optimal charging accuracy. Its ability to function as a stabilized power supply and compatibility with synchronized parallel operations via VE.Can make it adaptable to complex electrical systems. Its dimensions are 405 x 250 x 150 mm for a weight of 7 kg.
