The B&G V20S VHF radio is a fixed-mount communication solution designed for reliability and optimal performance across a wide range of vessels. Compliant with ASN Class D, it integrates essential safety features into a compact and robust design. Its built-in GPS receiver ensures position transmission in emergencies, even if other onboard instruments are offline. NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183 connectivity enables seamless integration with onboard chartplotters and multifunction displays.
Performance and communication
The V20S offers switchable transmit power of 25 W or 1 W to adapt to all communication conditions. It provides access to all international marine channels (USA, Canada, International bands), including weather channels with a dedicated Wx direct-access key. The user interface is optimized for simplicity with a rotary channel selector and dedicated keys for priority channels 16/9. Advanced scanning functions include triple-channel monitoring (current channel, channel 16, and a user-defined priority channel), scanning of all channels, or a custom "My Channels" list. A 4 W external speaker output ensures clear audio even in noisy environments.
Safety and ASN Class D features
As a Class D device, the V20S includes a dedicated channel 70 receiver for continuous DSC monitoring without interruption. A dedicated "DISTRESS" key triggers an automated distress call, transmitting the vessel’s MMSI identification and GPS position. The system supports up to 50 stored contacts with MMSI numbers, management of three favorite groups, and group or all-ships calls. ATIS functionality is also available for navigation on European inland waterways.
Integration and ergonomics
The high-contrast LCD display ensures perfect readability in daylight and features a reversed night mode (white on black) to preserve night vision. The housing is waterproof to IPX7 standards. Installation is flexible with the included mounting bracket or an optional flush-mount option. In addition to its built-in GPS, the V20S includes a connection for an external GPS antenna. Power requirement is 12 VDC, with 1.5 A consumption in receive mode and up to 6 A during transmission. Dimensions are 167 x 89 x 161 mm, weighing 1.18 kg.
