Detailed description
Detailed description
The GlobalFIX V5 CATII distress beacon from ACR (part number ACR-2852) represents the new generation of maritime safety equipment (EPIRB). Designed for manual activation or automatic activation upon contact with water once removed from its Category II bracket, it integrates triple location technology to maximize rescue chances: the global Cospas-Sarsat satellite network at 406 MHz, local radio direction finding at 121.5 MHz, and AIS (Automatic Identification System) transmission.
AIS integration and RLS technology
Unlike previous generations, the GlobalFIX V5 transmits a distress signal via AIS (1W) on frequencies 161.975 MHz and 162.025 MHz. This feature instantly alerts all vessels equipped with AIS receivers within VHF range, significantly reducing response times. Additionally, it integrates the RLS (Return Link Service) protocol via the Galileo network. An LED indicator visually confirms to the crew that the distress message has been received by the Rescue Coordination Centers (RCC) and that the GNSS position (GPS, Galileo, Glonass) has been acquired.
NFC connectivity and extreme reliability
The major innovation of this model lies in its NFC (Near Field Communication) connectivity. Using the dedicated mobile application, the user can interact with the beacon to check the lithium battery (LiFeS2) status, review GNSS test history, and ensure the device is functioning properly without consuming transmission energy. Certified to MED, SOLAS, and Cospas-Sarsat standards, this Class 2 beacon guarantees a transmission autonomy of over 48 hours at extreme temperatures of -20°C. Its dual strobe (visible white light and infrared) facilitates nighttime visual location by search teams. The battery lifespan is set at 10 years.
