Detailed description
Detailed description
The B&G H5000/H3000 plastic flush-mount speed sensor is a paddlewheel through-hull sensor designed to provide water speed and sea temperature data to navigation instrument systems. It is a critical component for performance calculations, current tracking, and precise calibration of onboard instruments. Its design is specifically tailored to the demands of high-performance racing and cruising.
Main technical characteristics
This sensor, model SEN-SPD-HPF , features a durable plastic body and is designed for flush mounting in the hull to minimize hydrodynamic drag. It incorporates two sensors: a paddlewheel for speed measurement and a thermometer for water temperature. It measures 138 mm in overall length, with an 88 mm through-hull fitting. The sensor outputs an analog signal for processing by a central processing unit (CPU) or a B&G expansion module.
Design and maintenance
The flush mounting is a key advantage of this model compared to non-flush sensors, reducing turbulence and preserving the sailboat's performance. A notable feature is the self-sealing valve integrated into the through-hull fitting. This mechanism allows the transducer (the insert with the impeller) to be removed for cleaning or maintenance without requiring the boat to be hauled out, thus ensuring consistent speed measurement accuracy.
System compatibility and integration
The SEN-SPD-HPF sensor is exclusively compatible with B&G H5000 and H3000 instrument systems and the WTP3 (Wave Technology Processor) navigation data processor. It connects via a proprietary wired link to the H5000 main unit or a suitable expansion module. The processor then converts the analog signal into digital data for transmission over the NMEA 2000 network, making it accessible to all compatible multifunction displays and instruments on board.
