Detailed description

The SonicHub2 from B&G is a complete marine audio entertainment server, designed for seamless integration with B&G multifunction displays Simrad and Lowrance via the NMEA 2000 network. Although it is a previous-generation product now discontinued, it remains a high-performance "black box" solution for centralizing audio control directly from your chartplotter, freeing up console space.

Amplification and multi-zone management

It allows independent control of two separate listening zones via its speaker outputs. For more complex systems, it features pre-amplified outputs (RCA) for a third zone and a dedicated subwoofer output, providing maximum flexibility for onboard sound systems.

Connectivity and audio sources

This audio server includes Bluetooth connectivity v4.0 (profiles A2DP, AVRCP, HFP) for wireless audio streaming from a smartphone or tablet. It also has two USB ports for playing multimedia files (FAT16, FAT32, NTFS) and charging devices (1A max). Audio sources are complemented by two stereo auxiliary inputs (AUX), an integrated AM/FM tuner, and a composite video output (PAL/NTSC). For the US market, it is compatible with the SiriusXM satellite weather and radio module WM-3 (subscription required).

Technical specifications and installation

Its dimensions are 107.2 x 225.0 x 62.0 mm with a weight of 0.88 kg. It is important to note its IPX2 waterproof rating, which requires installation in a dry, protected compartment free from water splashes and humidity. The unit complies with CE (EN 60945), FCC, and C-Tick standards.

« NMEA 2000 audio hub: Centralized integration by Navico »

The SonicHub2 is Navico’s reference solution for centralized audio integration on legacy B&G, Simrad and Lowrance systems. Its main advantage lies in its NMEA 2000 communication, enabling full control from the multifunction display and providing a clean, unified interface at the helm. While it is an obsolete product, it remains a reliable option for replacing an existing unit or equipping a boat with electronics from the same era. Note, however, its IPX2 protection rating: it must be installed in a perfectly dry and ventilated space, protected from condensation or water spray, which is its primary technical constraint.
