Detailed description
Detailed description
The B&G V20S VHF radio is a fixed-mount communication solution designed for optimal reliability and performance on a wide range of vessels. Compliant with Class D DSC, it incorporates essential safety features in a compact and rugged design. Its integrated GPS receiver ensures position transmission in emergencies, even if other onboard instruments are inoperative. NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183 connectivity allows for seamless integration with onboard chartplotters and multifunction displays.
Performance and communication
The V20S offers switchable transmission power of 25W or 1W to suit all communication conditions. It provides access to all international maritime channels (USA, Canada, and International bands), including weather channels with a dedicated Wx key. The user interface is optimized for ease of use with a rotary channel selector and dedicated keys for 16:9 priority channels. Advanced scanning functions include triple-channel standby (current channel, channel 16, and a user-defined priority channel), scanning of all channels, or a custom "My Channels" list. A 4W external speaker output ensures clear listening, even in noisy environments.
Safety and ASN Class D functions
As a Class D device, the V20S features a dedicated channel 70 receiver, ensuring continuous monitoring of uninterrupted DSC calls. A dedicated "DISTRESS" button triggers an automated distress call, transmitting the vessel's MMSI number and GPS position. The system can store up to 50 contacts with their MMSI numbers, manage three favorite groups, and make group or all-vessel calls. ATIS functionality is also available for navigation on European inland waterways.
Integration and ergonomics
The high-contrast LCD screen ensures excellent readability in bright daylight and features an inverted night mode (white on black) to preserve night vision. The housing is waterproof to IPX7 standards. Installation is flexible thanks to the included mounting bracket or via a flush-mount option. In addition to its integrated GPS, the V20S is equipped with a connection for an external GPS antenna. It requires a 12VDC power supply, with a current draw of 1.5A in receive mode and up to 6A in transmit mode. Its dimensions are 167 x 89 x 161 mm and it weighs 1.18 kg.
