Detailed description
Detailed description
The B&G V60-B VHF radio is a fixed, front-mount radio with an integrated Class B AIS transponder and GPS receiver. Designed for reliable communication and enhanced safety, it differs from the standard V60 model by its ability to transmit and receive AIS signals, allowing you not only to see other equipped vessels but also to be seen by them. This feature, combined with Class D DSC certification, makes it a central safety instrument for any sailboat.
Integrated Class B AIS transceiver
The V60-B is equipped with a Class B AIS transponder (transceiver) that transmits your vessel's position to other AIS-equipped vessels, significantly reducing the risk of collision. The system can track up to 150 AIS targets simultaneously. AIS data can be displayed directly on the VHF radio screen or overlaid on a chart or radar display via NMEA 2000 or NMEA 0183 networks. Transmit power is 23 W ± 2 W in high power mode and 0.8 W ± 0.2 W in low power mode, over a frequency range of 156.025 to 157.425 MHz.
Security and navigation features
Approved for Class D DSC (Digital Selective Calling), the V60-B features a dedicated distress button that sends an emergency message including your position. The MOB (Man Overboard) function instantly creates a waypoint at your current location and provides navigation instructions for the return journey. This waypoint is also shared over the NMEA 2000 network. Track Buddy mode allows you to follow the position of up to five other VHF radios by querying their positions at regular intervals via their MMSI numbers. The radio also includes a 30W audio output for an external megaphone or foghorn.
Built-in GPS and extended connectivity
The integrated GPS receiver offers quadruple redundancy for maximum positioning reliability. It uses its internal antenna, an optional external GPS-500 antenna (SMA connector), or position data from NMEA 0183 and NMEA 2000 networks. This comprehensive connectivity ensures seamless integration with B&G chartplotters and multifunction displays. The system can be expanded with up to two H60 wireless handsets, transforming the VHF radio into an onboard intercom and providing mobile communication from anywhere on the boat.
Design and installation
The V60-B radio is designed for discreet flush mounting with IPX7-certified weatherproofing on the front. The remote microphone can be connected to the front or rear of the unit for a flexible and streamlined installation. Optional extension cables allow for separate mounting of the microphone and radio. A 13.6V DC power supply is required (minimum 10V DC). The unit weighs 1.46 kg.
