Detailed description
Detailed description
The B&G WS730 vertical 1.4 m wind transducer is a high-performance instrument designed for the most demanding ocean racing conditions. Positioned within the WS700 range, this model features a 1.4 m carbon mast. Developed based on over 200,000 hours of wind-tunnel testing, it delivers wind data with extreme precision and stability, essential for racing and offshore cruising.
Performance and data accuracy
The 1.4 m high-modulus carbon mast elevates the transducer above sail-induced disturbances, ensuring unaltered measurements in clear air. The one-piece vane design ensures excellent aerodynamic stability, validated in competitions such as The Ocean Race. The WS730 offers a wind speed measurement range of 0.5 to 90 knots, with an accuracy of +/- 0.2 knots (from 2 to 80 knots) and a resolution of 0.1 knot. Wind angle accuracy is +/- 0.5°.
Design and connectivity
The transducer weighs 0.5 kg and is IPX6 waterproof certified. It operates on a 12 V DC power supply (9 to 16 V DC range) with power consumption under 0.2 W (15 mA at 12 V). The WS730 transmits data via an NMEA 0183 output (MWV and R sentences at 10 Hz), enabling direct connection to B&G H5000 and WTP3 systems. An optional interface is available for integration into an NMEA 2000 network.
Positioning within the WS700 range
The WS730 is positioned as a tall model in the WS700 series, featuring a 1.4 m mast compared to 0.8 m for the WS710 and 1.1 m for the WS720. Its mounting compatibility with B&G’s older VHMU units simplifies system upgrades.
