Detailed description
Detailed description
Designed for power management in marine electrical systems, the Blue Sea e-Series 9002E-BSS battery selector with AFD provides a solution for applications requiring reliable power supply and advanced alternator protection. This switch allows selection of battery bank 1 or 2, or combining them (1+2) for charging or emergency starting.
Advanced protection with integrated AFD
The Alternator Field Disconnect (AFD) integrated into the Blue Sea e-Series 9002E-BSS battery selector is a critical safety feature. It protects the alternator diodes from potential damage when switching to the OFF position while the engine is running. By interrupting the alternator field wire, the AFD reduces its output to zero, preventing destructive voltage spikes. This functionality is crucial for the longevity of your charging system.
Performance and marine construction
The 9002E-BSS is rated for inboard gasoline and diesel engines, supporting a continuous current rating of 350A, an intermittent rating of 600A for 5 minutes, and a starting current of 1200A for 30 seconds, at a maximum voltage of 32V DC. The 3/8"-16 (M10) tinned copper terminal studs, 7/8" (22.22 mm) long, ensure maximum conductivity and high corrosion resistance while allowing connection of multiple 4/0 AWG (95mm²) cable lugs. The recommended torque for the terminals is 15.82 N·m (140 in-lb). The "make-before-break" function ensures switching between battery banks without power interruption, essential for critical systems.
Safety, compliance, and positioning
This switch meets ignition protection requirements (UL 1500, SAE J1171, ISO 8846), making it safe for installations on gasoline-powered boats. Its robust design, with an IP66 protection rating, protects against dust and powerful water jets, ensuring durability in marine environments. The housing allows surface or rear-panel mounting and is compatible with most PERKO and Guest battery switch drill templates. The Blue Sea e-Series 9002E-BSS stands out with its integrated AFD and IP66 protection, essential features for safety and durability in marine environments. It uses tinned copper terminal studs for superior conductivity and corrosion resistance, and accepts 4/0 AWG cables, ensuring optimal power management for demanding applications. Its compliance with ABYC E-11 and UL 1107 standards confirms its reliability and performance in marine environments.
