Detailed description
Detailed description
Designed for high-current circuit protection, the Blue Sea Systems MRBF 150A terminal fuse is an essential electrical safety solution for marine installations. This MRBF (Marine Rated Battery Fuse) type fuse is specifically designed for direct mounting on the battery’s positive terminal, minimizing unprotected cable length and reducing the risk of electrical fire in the event of a short circuit or major overcurrent.
Technical specifications and positioning
With a rating of 150 amperes, this fuse is suitable for protecting main circuits or high-consumption equipment such as inverters, bow thrusters, or windlasses. It is designed to operate at a maximum voltage of 58V DC and offers a high interrupting capacity, reaching 10,000A at 14V DC, 5,000A at 32V DC, and 2,000A at 58V DC. This interrupting capacity is a key indicator of its ability to safely interrupt a high fault current. Compared to other fuse types such as ANL or MIDI fuses, the MRBF stands out for its compact design and ease of integration directly on the battery terminal, often via a dedicated terminal block (sold separately). It provides an alternative to bulkier inline fuse holders, enabling clean and optimized electrical distribution installation.
Applications and integration
The Blue Sea Systems MRBF 150A terminal fuse is a fundamental component for compliance with ABYC (American Boat and Yacht Council) electrical safety standards, which require protection within 7 inches (approximately 17.8 cm) of the power source. It integrates seamlessly into the electrical systems of boats, sailboats, and recreational vehicles, where space is often constrained and reliability is paramount. Its insulated design provides additional protection against accidental contact, contributing to the overall safety of the onboard electrical installation.
